How we source, verify, and correct what we publish

Radon data

Test statistics come from the Tennessee Department of Health’s Environmental Public Health Tracking data (state-compiled indoor test results, currently through October 2020), joined with the EPA Map of Radon Zones (1993) and US Census geography files. We show test counts everywhere, flag small samples, and never present a zip average as a substitute for testing your home.

A merge of the state’s most recent test years is scheduled before public launch; the data vintage is printed on every data page.

Pricing

Published ranges reflect Knoxville-market pricing research, dated on the page. As partner contractors join the network, ranges get recalibrated against real, local, itemized quotes, and the calculator’s model updates with them. Where honest flat numbers don’t exist (structural repair), we say so instead of inventing one.

Rules & regulations

Licensing thresholds, county applicability, and program facts are verified against the primary source (Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance, TDEC, EPA) before publishing, and rechecked when the state updates its pages. Laws change; if you catch us behind one, use the corrections address below.

Independence

Contractors pay us for introductions (disclosed in full here), and that revenue never buys editorial treatment: no pay-for-placement in our content, no softening a standard because a partner finds it inconvenient. The standards exist precisely so partners can be held to them.

Corrections

Found an error: a number, a rule, a broken claim? Email corrections@knoxcrawlspace.com. Verified corrections get fixed on the page with an update note, not quietly patched.

Authorship

Pages are researched from the sources above and reviewed by a human who stands behind them; named author bylines with credentials are rolling out across the site with launch. Nothing publishes that the author can’t defend line by line.
